Suitable For
The Lynton Healthcare Chair is suitable for any health or homecare, as with its tailored design and simple fabric style, ensure’s the chair blends into all environments.
The Lynton has been specifically designed to assist Equipment store providers, Local authorities, Care Home and Distributors to maximise budgets to stretch further.
The Lynton Healthcare Chair is ideal for clients who require pressure and postural management whilst wanting to be supported to stand independently, such as:
- Stroke
- Muscular sclerosis
- Frail elderly
- Lower limb oedema
The Lynton Healthcare Chair can also be used as part of a 24-hour postural care programme and its features also ensure that a user can be repositioned to allow for optional occupational performance, thus allowing an individual to engage in activities they want to do.
The Tilt in Space (TIS) mechanisms make this chair ideal for clients with changing and deteriorating neurological conditions and those who require assisted movement to reduce the problems of skin breakdown. They allow for multi positioning of the legs to reduce oedema and fluid retention, leading to increased comfort. They can also be useful to those with low blood pressure to alter their position to reduce the impact of changes in pressure e.g. postural hypertension.
The chair can be used with either a mobile or overhead hoist to support safe moving and handling techniques for carers.

- Depending on the seat cushion built into the chair the seat height may vary slightly from shown above. Due to the pressure care components used for each cushion, this will compress under the weight distribution of the user.
Back Cushions
There is a choice of four interchangeable pressure management back cushions each with different features that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.
In addition, all cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and allows for the fibre to be added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust the firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning.
Waterfall Individual fibre filled waterfall cushions, each of which are fully adjustable to accommodate maximum postural support. The waterfall back can be useful for those with mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis and reduced muscle mass on their back.
T back (using Waterfall back) A T back style can be achieved by using the waterfall back cushions. The middle and bottom waterfall can easily be removed and rotated sidewards allowing the T shape to be formed. The T back can be useful for those with mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis and reduced muscle mass on their back.
Support Lateral A foam filled back providing firmer lateral support with a soft fibre filled headrest. The firm lateral support maintains midline trunk alignment which can be useful for those post Stroke or early to mid-stages of neurological conditions.
Adjustable Support Lateral An adjustable structured foam filled back providing firmer lateral support with a soft fibre filled headrest. The firm lateral support maintains midline trunk alignment giving more lateral support and mild positioning. This can be useful for those post Stroke or early to mid-stages of neurological conditions. |
Seat Cushions
There is a choice of four pressure management seat cushions each with different features.
The cushion you choose can be removed and interchanged with one of the other seat cushion options. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair. Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning and replacement.
With all pressure management seat cushions, they will be covered in a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid the reduction of shear and friction by Dartex.
Easiform For standard seating, our softest foam cushion with high quality Reflex foam filler for gentle comfort.
Viscoform For those who have good posture and mobility but are seated for greater than one hour at a time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. This cushion has a high-density foam base which offers a supportive and firm seat base with a top layer of memory foam to allow immersion into the cushion, giving stability and a large surface area to reduce pressure levels.
Liquiform For those who have good posture and mobility but sit for long periods of time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. Recommended for people with limited muscle bulk or at risk of excessive weight loss. This cushion has a high-density foam which offers a supportive and firm seat base. The foam is topped with a fluid liquid gel in a soft silicone cover which provides a high level of pressure relief. The liquid gel helps to dissipate heat and constantly adapts to the user’s movement.
Dynaform For those at very high risk of developing pressure sores or a history of sores where the highest priority is to prevent further pressure damage. The Dynaform cushion is a dynamic alternating air cushion, which constantly changes the air levels within its air cells to recreate the effect of normal body movements, which provides constant pressure redistribution to prevent pressure build up. Minimum weight of user 40 kg (6 stone 4lbs) |
Headrest Cushions
There is a choice of 5 detachable headrests all attached with a weighted tab.
Head Roll The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.
Small Head Pillow The small head pillow provides additional comfort for those who may require a softer surface to rest on whilst stopping hyper-extension at the neck when reclined or tilted.
Small Profile Headrest Similar to the large profile headrest but support is focused more on the head and neck.
Large Profile Headrest This headrest provides a combination of lateral support at the head, neck and shoulders whilst offering additional comfort and reducing neck extension.
Midline Headrest The midline headrest provides postural support for those with some form of midline deficit, following a stroke resulting in proprioceptive deficit or unilateral neglect for example. It is also useful for those with reduced lateral muscle strength or tolerance (such as sternocleinomastoid). |
Mechanisms
The most important aspect to consider before purchasing the Lynton chair are the seating positions that are required to aid the conditions of the client and address any pressure and postural management needs.
The Lynton is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism.
For demonstrations of the mechanisms described below please watch the relevant videosbelow.
Dual and Single Tilt in Space
DTIS and STIS (Common features)
The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms. It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Both these mechanisms have a rise position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair. The seat angle can be changed to provide further support by choosing the VAL Technology.
Dual Tilt In Space
Single Tilt In Space
DTIS (Only)
As well as the Tilt in Space and Rise functions, described above, the Dual Tilt in Space mechanism also features an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement:
- The independent recline allows the user to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
VAL Technology
An optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair that allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º. The higher the angle the lower the front of the chair becomes, providing more support when moving from a sitting to a standing position. A simple pin system allows you to set the angle required.
Safety Devices
Please note that the Accupak Rechargeable Battery Systems and the Enclosure Skirt will need to be fitted at the point of manufacture.
Handset Standard Feature This chair comes standard with the quick release handset located at the rear of the arm, this allows for the power to the handset to be disconnected to ensure the chair cannot be used.
Styleline Handset with On/Off Button On some handsets you can choose to have an on/off emergency stop button. Please ask your supplier for the option available on your chair model.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair. Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp. Full user instructions can be found in the user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and Accupak. A copy of the manual can be found in the Brochures Section.
20 Cycle Back Up Unit This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system. Full user instructions can be found in your user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and the 20 cycle back up. A copy of the manual can be found in the Brochures Section.
Enclosure Skirt The enclosure skirt hides the mechanism when the chair is either in the full rise or recline positions. This has been designed to stop small pets entering the mechanism whilst in the recline or rise positions. |
